The 6'1 Pyzel Shadow XL is a 6'1 x 19 3/4" x 2 3/4" performance shortboard with 34.3 liters of volume, built for surfers who want true shortboard feel with more paddle power and float. It takes Pyzel's Shadow, the 2019 SIMA Shortboard of the Year, and adds width, thickness and volume for earlier wave entry and more speed through slow sections. It is set up as a thruster with Futures fin boxes. Fins are not included.
How the Pyzel Shadow XL Surfs
The extra volume sits forward of center, under your chest, so the Shadow XL paddles into waves early, floats you through the pop-up and keeps its momentum through soft sections without feeling bulky under your back foot. The wide point is set at center rather than behind it, which gives the board a balanced, forward-running outline that stays connected through turns.
The nose is pulled in, with extra rocker in the last 12 inches so the tip stays free on vertical turns. At the back, a gentle hip leads into a slightly pulled-in squash tail, which tightens your turning radius and helps the tail release. The tail rocker and bottom concave come from the Phantom, adding speed through flat sections and the pivot for tight turns.

Who the Shadow XL Is For
The Shadow XL suits intermediate surfers progressing toward a higher-performance board and experienced surfers who want an everyday shortboard with more foam. Pyzel designed it to work in weak, mushy surf while still holding up when beach breaks, points and reefs get more powerful. Pyzel suggests choosing a length from your height up to about an inch over.
Shadow XL vs. the Standard Shadow
The Shadow XL keeps the Shadow's outline and design but adds width, thickness and volume at every length. If the standard Shadow feels a little low on foam for your weight or the waves you usually surf, the XL gives you more paddle power without moving to a different model.
