Lost Puddle Jumper Stinger

Filters

The Lost x Aipa Puddle Jumper Sting takes the genre-defining Puddle Jumper and radicalizes it with Aipa’s iconic Sting tail. Originally inspired by Lost’s long-running Puddle Jumper collab with Lib Tech, this version adds the famous Aipa hip/sting behind the wide point, creating a more intense turning fulcrum while keeping the playful, high-volume Puddle Jumper feel.

Developed with the Aipa family (and championed by Duke Aipa), the Puddle Jumper Sting blends modern small-wave hybrid speed with a classic Sting tail pivot. It’s still one of Lost’s widest, most stable, most user-friendly plan shapes — now tuned to turn sharper, fit tighter pockets, and feel more electric under your feet.

Who Is the Puddle Jumper Sting For?

  • Surfers who love the original Puddle Jumper but want more bite and pivot off the tail.
  • Intermediate to advanced surfers looking for a daily small-wave hybrid with real performance.
  • Fans of Aipa’s Sting design who want it in a modern, high-volume, easy-to-ride platform.
  • Anyone who wants to turn average knee- to head-high surf into a fast, fun skatepark.

Lost x Aipa Puddle Jumper Sting Design Features

Wide, Stable Puddle Jumper Platform

At its core, the Sting still starts with one of Lost’s widest and most stable/playful plan shapes:

  • Full nose and chest area for easy paddling and early wave entry.
  • Lots of surface area for instant planing in weak waves.
  • High-volume, compact lengths ranging roughly from 4'10" to 6'2".

The Aipa “Sting” Tail

The magic is in the tail. Aipa’s Sting is a distinct hip/wing cut into the rail, placed about 18" forward of the tail (roughly a quarter of the board’s length).

  • Breaks the outline to create a shorter, more pivoty rail behind the wing.
  • Lets the board roll and snap tighter off the tail without sacrificing front-foot drive.
  • Makes the board feel looser, more radical, and more responsive than a standard wide-tailed groveler.

In short: the Sting turns the original Puddle Jumper into a more attack-ready small-wave weapon.

Foil & Rails

  • Thick under the chest for paddling and glide.
  • Foil tapers cleanly into the tail for sensitivity.
  • Rails are full but more refined than a pure cruiser, balancing forgiveness and bite.

Rocker & Bottom Contours

Like the original Puddle Jumper, the Sting uses:

  • Low entry rocker for easy wave entry and speed in weak surf.
  • Relaxed overall rocker for glide and flow.

Underneath, the bottom is tuned for speed and control:

  • Single concave between the feet for lift.
  • Double concave through the fins for grip and acceleration.
  • Subtle vee behind the back fin to help it roll from rail to rail.

Fin Setup

The Puddle Jumper Sting is available in several versatile fin layouts, often including:

  • Twin + trailer (a very popular setup for speed and looseness).
  • Thruster for more control and drive.
  • 5-fin box options on some stock boards so you can experiment with quad setups.

Best Wave Conditions for the Puddle Jumper Sting

This model is built as an everyday small- to mid-wave board:

  • Knee-high to head-high surf.
  • Soft beach breaks where you need help generating speed.
  • Better days where you still want volume but don’t want to feel stuck on a cruiser.
  • Trips where you need one board to handle a wide range of average conditions.

It keeps the “always fun” feel of the Puddle Jumper, but the Sting tail lets you attack the pocket and surf tighter lines.

What Size Lost Puddle Jumper Sting Should You Ride?

The Puddle Jumper Sting has a generous volume range (roughly 21.5L to 46.75L across sizes). As a starting point:

  • Ride it 2–4 inches shorter than your everyday shortboard.
  • Match or slightly increase your normal liters for easy paddling.
  • If you’re newer to hybrids, lean a touch longer / more volume for stability.

Lost x Aipa Puddle Jumper Sting FAQ

Is the Puddle Jumper Sting a collab with Aipa?

Yes. The Puddle Jumper Sting incorporates Aipa’s iconic Sting tail design, and many versions are branded as Lost x Aipa, reflecting the collaboration between Matt Biolos and the Aipa family.

How is the Sting different from the original Puddle Jumper?

The Sting keeps the wide, high-volume, easy-riding platform of the OG Puddle Jumper but adds Aipa’s Sting tail, which creates a sharper, more pivotal turning zone for tighter, more radical turns without losing front-foot drive.

What waves is the Puddle Jumper Sting best for?

It’s built as an everyday hybrid for knee-high to head-high surf — from weak beach break to punchier days where you still want volume but need more performance.

Is the Puddle Jumper Sting good for beginners?

It has plenty of volume and is forgiving, but the Sting tail is designed more for progressing to advanced surfers who want to turn tighter. Total beginners may be better off on the Puddle Jumper OG or a soft-top.

What fin setup should I choose?

Many surfers love the Sting as a twin + trailer for speed and looseness. Thruster setups give more control, while quads add drive and hold. Check our product pages for the specific fin box layout on each board.
