Firewire Great White
The Firewire Great White Twin is Kelly Slater’s performance twin, co-designed with Bali-based shaper Mike Woo and inspired by the streamlined outline of a great white shark. Built in Firewire’s I-Bolic Core with Volcanic Lamination, it combines the paddle power and wave-catching of a hybrid with the on-rail performance of a high-end shortboard.
This board slots into your quiver where most fish don’t — it creates speed in weak waves, controls speed in powerful waves, and excels at tight arcs in punchy pockets and fast wraps on the shoulder.
Who Is the Firewire Great White Twin For?
- Intermediate to advanced surfers who want a high-performance twin that still paddles easily.
- Riders looking for a board that works in everyday 2–6 ft surf but can also handle quality, steeper waves.
- Surfers who like the speed and looseness of a twin, but want more control and on-rail performance.
Design Features
Shark-Inspired Outline
- Plan shape traced from the top view of a great white shark for maximum hydrodynamic efficiency.
- Hip by the fins creates a pivot point for quick, tight turns in the pocket.
- Swallow tail for extra hold and release in small to powerful surf.
Rocker & Bottom Contours
- More rocker than a traditional fish/twin, making it suited for better-quality waves and vertical surfing.
- Single to double concave bottom for lift, drive, and smooth rail transitions.
- Hidden volume under the chest with fine rails for immediate response in the pocket.
I-Bolic + Volcanic Construction
- I-Bolic Core: I-beam style engineered core that controls flex and improves strength and responsiveness.
- Volcanic Lamination: basalt-based cloth as a sustainable alternative to carbon, offering increased durability and lively flex.
Fin Setup
The Great White Twin is designed primarily as a twin + trailer (twin + 1), giving you the speed of a twin with added drive and control from the small rear fin.
Ideal Wave Conditions
- Recommended for 2–6 ft surf, from weak, crumbly waves to solid, hollow pockets.
- Beach breaks, reef breaks and point waves where you want both speed and control.
- Days when a traditional fish feels too flat or skatey and you want more high-performance bite.
Sizing the Firewire Great White Twin
Firewire recommends riding the Great White Twin at around your performance volume or slightly more.
- High-performance shortboarders: stay close to your usual liters, maybe +0.5–1.5 L for extra paddle power.
- Everyday surfers: choose a size that balances easy paddling with responsive, on-rail feel.
- Larger sizes (6'2"–6'6") are now available for surfers who want more length and float.
