Firewire Dominator Pro

Filters

The Firewire Dominator Pro takes the much-loved Dominator 2.0 platform and tunes it for higher-performance surfing. Think of it as the leaner, quicker, more precise sibling of the Dominator 2.0 — with a narrower outline, more refined rails, and a more performance-oriented feel aimed at advanced and progressing surfers.

If you love the idea of a modern all-round hybrid but want something you can push harder in better waves, the Dominator Pro is built exactly for that role.

Who Is the Firewire Dominator Pro For?

  • Advanced and upper-intermediate surfers who want a performance daily driver.
  • Riders who like the Dominator 2.0 concept but prefer a narrower, more reactive board.
  • Surfers in consistently decent waves who want one board that can handle punchy beach breaks, points, and reefs.
  • Experienced surfers stepping down from a groveler or step-up into a true “do-everything” shortboard.

Firewire Dominator Pro Design Features

Refined Performance Outline

  • Narrower overall template than the Dominator 2.0 for better control at higher speeds.
  • Pulled-in tail that grips and holds in steeper sections and at higher speeds.
  • Still maintains enough width forward for paddle power and early wave entry.

Rocker Profile

  • More entry rocker than the Dominator 2.0 for steeper takeoffs and late drops.
  • Balanced center rocker for efficient speed generation.
  • Slightly increased tail rocker to allow tighter, more vertical turns in the pocket.

Bottom Contours

  • Single concave under the front foot for quick lift and drive.
  • Double concave between the fins to add grip, control, and release when you push off the bottom.
  • Subtle vee exiting the tail for smoother rail transitions in critical sections.

Rails & Volume

  • Lower, more performance-focused rails than the Dominator 2.0.
  • Foam is slightly reduced and more refined around the rails to increase sensitivity.
  • Still enough foam under the chest to paddle well as an everyday shortboard.

Fin Setup

The Dominator Pro is typically built with a 5-fin setup, giving you the choice of:

  • Thruster – for tight, precise turns and strong control in the pocket.
  • Quad – for extra speed, drive, and hold when the waves are running down the line.

Construction Options

Depending on the size and year of production, the Dominator Pro is commonly available in:

  • Helium – ultra-light, springy feel with excellent durability.
  • Ibolic – strong, responsive, and balanced flex for performance surfing.
  • Volcanic – basalt cloth build for extra durability and a more planted, solid rail feel.

Ideal Wave Range

  • Waist-high to well overhead surf.
  • Punchy beach breaks where responsiveness and hold matter.
  • Point breaks and reef waves where you want speed, drive, and control in one board.
  • Travel quivers where you only want 1–2 main shortboards that can handle a variety of conditions.

What Size Firewire Dominator Pro Should You Ride?

  • Advanced surfers: typically ride it at or slightly shorter than their standard HP shortboard (similar liters).
  • Intermediate surfers: can size it equal to their daily board or add a bit of volume for forgiveness.
  • If you’re moving from a Dominator 2.0, you might ride the Dominator Pro at similar length but a touch less volume.

Firewire Dominator Pro FAQ

How is the Dominator Pro different from the Dominator 2.0?

The Dominator Pro is narrower, more rockered, and more performance-tuned. It’s aimed more at advanced surfers, while the Dominator 2.0 is the more forgiving “every surfer” version.

Is the Dominator Pro good for beginners?

No — it’s designed primarily for intermediate and advanced surfers who are already comfortable on performance shortboards.

What waves is the Dominator Pro best for?

Waist-high to overhead surf at punchy beach breaks, points, and reef setups where you want a responsive daily driver.

Thruster or quad on the Dominator Pro?

Most surfers ride it as a thruster for control and precision. Quad can be great in down-the-line waves for extra speed and hold.
